Minnesota groups step up pressure against CAFTA

In a rally at the state Capitol and a protest outside U.S. Senator Norm Coleman’s Minnesota office, labor and environmental groups Thursday voiced their opposition to CAFTA, the proposed Central American Free Trade Agreement. They called on elected officials to invest in good jobs and a clean environment.

Ham Lake City Council rejects development moratorium

The Ham Lake City Council voted 3-2 Monday to reject a proposed moratorium on new development near the intersection of Highway 65 and Crosstown Boulevard. With the vote, Wal-Mart is now
expected to submit a new proposal for a smaller store on a smaller site that would not require rezoning.

Sparks fly at union-sponsored mayoral debate

Sparks flew at the United Labor Centre April 14 as Minneapolis mayoral candidates Peter McLaughlin and incumbent R.T. Rybak faced off in a 90-minute debate. The Minneapolis Central Labor Union Council (CLUC) hosted the debate, centered on the theme of “Good Jobs and Economic Policy.”
