The annual school offered workshops in Leadership for Union Women, Building Alliances with Community Organizations, Collective Bargaining and FMLA and ADA, among others. With a concise list of courses and electric atmosphere, the program was a great success.
A focus on history and the roots of the labor movement was well received and participants were able to connect the current state of the labor movement to its rich historical past.
Sharice McCain, a member of AFSCME Local 3800 and a staff member at the Labor Education Service, and Verretta Strickland, member of OPEIU Local 12 and staff member at the Minnesota AFL-CIO, were among the participants.
The host for this year’s Midwest and Southern School for Union Women was the Labor Education Program at the University of Arkansas, Little Rock. The School is one of four women’s schools sponsored by the United Association for Labor Education. Learn more at the UALE website.
