Stuart Acuff, the AFL-CIO's national organizing director, will be keynote speaker for a statewide organizing conference May 18-19.
Acuff's speech, at 1:45 p.m. May 18, will be followed by three workshops that afternoon. The conference will resume the next morning with a presentation by Todd Anderson, the AFL-CIO's Midwest regional director, followed by three more workshops.
Workshop topics include hands-on advice in corporate research, market-based organizing, supervising organizers and politics and organizing. Other workshops will give explanations of the Minnesota Building Trades' MOVE program, and the Twin Cities Interfaith Center for Worker Justice, which is a collaboration of the University of Minnesota Law School and the Twin Cities Religion and Labor Network.
Activities will conclude with a women's caucus at 11:30 a.m. May 19.
The conference will be at the Holiday Inn North, 1201 W. County Road E, Arden Hills. Registration is $60 in advance, $75 at the door; it includes refreshments, dinner on May 18 and breakfast on May 19. For information, call Minnesota AFL-CIO organizing director Tim Geelan at 651-227-7647.
