Art exhibit celebrates strikes and protests

PoliGraphix Art Collective and CTUL, a Minneapolis-based worker center, are collaborating on the “General Strike / Huelga General” art exhibit in celebration of strikes, protests and popular resistance.

The exhibit explores the theme of a general strike from social, political, and labor perspectives, and also serves as a platform for artists to imagine visions of civil disobedience on a mass scale. More than 40 artists, mostly local, but also from across the nation, are exhibiting their paintings, prints, puppets, posters, photography and more.

The exhibit launches Friday, May 12, from 6 to 10 p.m. at the offices of CTUL, 3715 Chicago Ave. S., Minneapolis. This event will also serve as a fundraiser for CTUL’s “Community Arts & Power Project,” which invites working artists to collaborate with ongoing labor and community organizing campaigns.

There will be a suggested donation of $10 at the door, but nobody will be turned away for lack of funds, CTUL said.
