Sixty-four Benton County social service workers have approved their first contract, ending a two-week strike. The vote means a rally that had been scheduled for May 18 is cancelled.
Members of AFSCME Local 1243 approved the tentative agreement in a vote Wednesday morning, said Char Brink, staff representative for AFSCME Council 65. The Benton County Board will vote on the contract Friday morning, she said.
Details of the settlement are not being released until after the County Board vote.
The settlement followed a six-hour mediation session Tuesday, Brink said. The agreement is the first contract for the workers, who joined AFSCME about 17 months ago. The key issue in the strike was wages, the workers said.
