Carpenters, AFL-CIO hold reaffiliation talks
WASHINGTON — With advice from former Labor Secretary John Dunlop, the Carpenters and the AFL-CIO held talks on reaffiliation by the 324,000-member union, both sides said.
The latest one-on-one talks between AFL-CIO President John J. Sweeney and Carpenters President Douglas McCarron occurred July 16.? Dunlop advised both men, while Building and Construction Trades Department President Edward C. Sullivan “has been consulted,” they added.
“We are committed to attempt to resolve the matters under discussion in an expeditious manner and achieve the unity that is our shared goal,” Sweeney and McCarron said.? Other than that, they declined to comment on the talks.
Indications of cooperation
The Sweeney-McCarron talks come amid indications of cooperation between the Carpenters and the rest of the labor movement on practical terms at the state and local level.?
