An unprecedented coalition of 79 organizations, ranging from churches and labor unions to community groups, gathered at the state Capitol Wednesday to urge the Legislature to spend more money on children and working families.
"We have the money," said the Rev. David McCauley, director of the Minnesota Catholic Conference. "We need to invest it where it will make a difference."
Lawmakers are meeting in conference committees this week to hammer out the details of various spending bills, based on targets agreed to last week by legislative leaders and Gov. Ventura.
