David Korten, author of 'When Corporations Rule the World,' will speak at 7:30 p.m. April 26 as part of the conference 'ReVisioning: Building Community for a Sustainable Future.'
Korten's book (Kumarian, $15.95), about the consequences of economic globalization, has been rereleased with five new chapters. It outlines the rise of the modern corporation, its roots in government-business alliances, and the development of the corporate entity that transcends national boundaries.
Among workshops will be a panel discussion, 'Building Sustainable Unions and Worker Organizations,' led by Todd Erickson of the Communication Workers of America. That discussion is scheduled for 11 a.m.-12:15 p.m. April 27.
The conference takes place April 26-28 at Macalester College's Kagin Commons. Topics include land use, affordable housing, racism, civil liberties, food safety, the system of justice, and grassroots economic networks.
Other featured speakers include Mel Duncan, Michael Albert, Ronnie Dugger, Marjorie Kelly and Polly Mann. Registration fees range from $25 for one day to $62 for the full conference, with discounts available for students and low-income participants. For more information, call 612-827-1894.
