Faced with a flight attendants' campaign for training against terrorists, Northwest Airlines agreed with Teamsters Local 2000 to create a joint self-defense training program, the union reported.
Northwest executives committed to cooperatively design and deliver a program to provide all flight attendants with self-defense skills, Teamsters Airlines Division Director Ray Benning said.
"We are happy that Northwest Airlines has committed substantial resources to provide our members with the tools and resources to carry out the in-flight responsibilities aboard flight," said Danny Campbell, president of Teamsters Local 2000.
The parties hope to have the training program in place for the month of May. The Teamsters Airline Division represents more than 50,000 workers at 48 airlines.
