Twin Cities activists from diverse communities will gather at Macalester College on Sat., Nov. 12. "The Great Activist Get-Together" will offer a chance for people to network, share visions, and have fun.
A potluck and group tabling will continue through the evening. Between folk and Latin jazz musical acts, high-profile coalition builders Tara Widner of The Blue-Green Alliance, Javier Morillo-Alicea of The Change to Win Coalition and Minnesota Alliance of Peacemakers' Dick Bernard will recount their wisdom in an open forum.
Chris Spotted Eagle of KFAI community radio will emcee the night. Entertainment will feature accomplished Minnesota folk musicians, The Granary Girls, as well as energizing dance party specialists, Salsabrosa.
Opening the event with spoken word will be Truth Serum Blues actor/author Ismail Khalidi. Later, Department of Peace advocate Mary Jane Lavigne will add her own poetic voice.
Emphasizing community building, event organizers will provide an opportunity for attendees to use an open mic. The gathering will begin at 5:30 p.m. in Macalester?s Olin Rice Building. An admission price of $5 will be requested.
