After negotiating for two years with no contract in sight, Hotel Employees & Restaurant Employees Local 17 is again picketing the Minneapolis Grand Hotel. Supporters will join the hotel workers for a rally Tuesday, June 18, at 11:30 a.m. in front of the facility, 615 2nd Ave. S., in downtown Minneapolis.
"The owner of this hotel, Jeff Wirth, is trying to bust the union and has dragged negotiations out for over two years," Minneapolis Central Labor Union Council President Bill McCarthy said, announcing AFL-CIO support for the rally.
Picketing resumed in front of the hotel on June 11 and is scheduled to continue throughout the summer until a contract is reached, the union said.
