Workers and community leaders will join Lieutenant Governor Tina Smith Wednesday, April 26, for a roundtable and public discussion on “The Crisis of Wage Theft in Minnesota.”
This free event, open to the public, will be held at 6 p.m. in the Honeywell Auditorium of the Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota, 321 19th Ave. S., Minneapolis. It is hosted by the Labor Education Service, a unit of the Carlson School that provides education on workplace issues.
Every year, $50 billion is stolen from American workers in unpaid wages, more than losses from burglaries and car theft combined.
Wage theft brings many workers’ pay below minimum wage and makes it harder for law-abiding businesses to compete. From construction to service industries to agriculture, Minnesotans are combatting this problem in new and creative ways. Join the conversation with Lt. Gov. Tina Smith and a panel of workers and community leaders at the forefront of this fight.
