Strikes will take on a different meaning when members of organized labor participate in the Sixth Annual Labor Bowl for Kids' Sake to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Twin Cities. Teams are being recruited for the event, which will take place Thursday, April 24, starting at 3 p.m. at West Side Lanes, 1625 S. Robert St., West St. Paul.
'We are extremely grateful to organized labor for supporting this event for so many years,' said Kathleen Pickering, president of Big Brothers Big Sisters. 'Funds raised from this event help us get kids off of our waiting list and into a relationship that will positively impact their lives.'
The community and union members are encouraged to participate. Ways to participate include:
- Form a bowling team comprised of four or five people (each bowler will receive a sponsor sheet to sign up their sponsors) - then call and set the time you want to bowl.
- Sign up and bowl individually (you will be placed on a team if you don't have one)
- Make a financial contribution in support of the event.
- Contribute a door prize
To register, receive sponsor sheets or for more information, call Michelle Edgerton at 651-789-2431. Contributions may be sent directly to Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Twin Cities, 2550 University Avenue, Suite 410N, St. Paul, MN 55114. Earmark your donation for 'Labor Bowl for Kids' Sake.'
Big Brothers Big Sisters creates long term friendships for children with committed, responsible adult volunteers to promote healthy child development. The agency serves an 11-county area and seeks out and relies on the support of volunteers to meet the needs of the diverse population it serves.
