Labor Day actions planned to support $15 wage, paid leave

Several actions are planned on Sept. 4, Labor Day, to support a $15 minimum wage and enforcement of paid sick time ordinances, as well as community involvement in infrastructure decisions.                                                                                                         

Here is the schedule:

• Fast Food workers, the CTUL worker center and Fight for $15 in St. Paul will demonstrate from 5:30–7:30 a.m. at the McDonald’s restaurant at 2322 W. 7th St., St. Paul.
• Airport workers demonstrate for a $15 minimum wage, 8–9 a.m. at MSP Airport.
• Demonstrations by workers demanding their employers provide earned sick and safe time, 9:30–11:00 a.m., locations to be announced.
• 15Now, SEIU and more, 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m., CTUL offices, 3715 Chicago Ave. South, Minneapolis.
• CURE, SEIU Helathcare Minnesota and community allies will rally to highlight the need for community unity to address problems facing working families in the Rochester area.

On Monday, September 4th, at 11:30 am, Communities United for Rochester Empowerment (CURE) will be joined by allies from faith and community groups for a Labor Day rally highlighting the need for community unity to address problems facing working families in the Rochester area. The speakers will highlight the organizing work being done around increasing affordable housing, winning good jobs, improving transit and creating safe communities.

CURE is a member-led community organization affiliated with the Mayo healthcare workers’ Union, SEIU Healthcare Minnesota. CURE brings low and moderate income people together from across the city of Rochester to address community concerns and hold politicians and corporations accountable. CURE’s first community meeting was attended by over 100 people and focused on the affordable housing crisis in Rochester.

The rally is part of a Labor Day picnic to celebrate working people and our unions. It is open to everyone.
