On July 1, Monica Bielski Boris succeeded Barb Kucera as director of the University of Minnesota Labor Education Service.
Kucera, who served for six years as director, returns to working full time as a staff member and editor of the Workday Minnesota website.
Bielski Boris, who has a Ph.D in industrial relations from Rutger’s University, joined the LES staff in 2014, bringing impressive experience as a labor educator at the University of Illinois and as a consultant to the AFL-CIO.
“I am excited and honored to have been elected LES director,” she said. “LES has such an impressive history of serving the workers of Minnesota, and I am humbled to be a part of this work and to have the support and guidance of my colleagues. We all share the mission of educating Minnesotans about their rights in the workplace and communicating the stories of workers. We are so committed to this work, and as director I plan to bring my own passion and skills to the task of leading this amazing organization.”
Kucera lauded her successor, noting, “I know she will take LES programming in exciting new directions.”
