The “Labor Movie Night” film series at the East Side Freedom Library will screen the drama “Suffragette” Tuesday, Dec. 5, at 7 p.m. Admission is free.
Telling the story of the British women’s suffrage movement of the late 19th and early 20th century, the film stars Academy Award nominees Carey Mulligan and Helena Bonham Carter and three-time Academy Award winner Meryl Streep.
Inspired by true events and real historical figures, “Suffragette” (U.K., 2015, 105 minutes, Rated PG-13) concentrates on the experiences and roles of working-class women in the British struggle for women’s right to vote. This movie provides one of the most complex representations of how people are transformed through their participation in a social struggle.
