“I want to build the Regional Labor Federation into a stronger, more unified organization by growing its membership and supporting union organizing campaigns,” Kasper said. “We will take the lead on issues like health insurance reform, and we will work to elect candidates who value the work union members do.”
Kasper will serve the remaining two years of former President Shar Knutson’s term. Knutson left office Oct. 1 to become president of the Minnesota AFL-CIO.
The other candidate in the race was Bree Halverson, a member of the Machinists union and an organizer for the St. Paul Regional Labor Federation.
The St. Paul federation is a branch of the AFL-CIO representing working families in the Twin Cities’ East Metro area. More than 100 unions come together through the St. Paul federation to organize workers, build political power and advance worker-friendly legislation.
