Mankato energy workers join union

Customer Service Representatives at Reliant Energy Minnegasco in Mankato voted overwhelmingly to join the Office and Professional Employees International Union, Local 12.

In the May 10th balloting, 19 employees voted. Fifteen voted for the union, 3 voted no and there was one challenged ballot.

Employees have been working to organize a union in their workplace since November of 2000, the union reported. Although many employees at Reliant Energy Minnegasco have been union since around the time of the company’s inception (including over 250 office workers in the Twin Cities who belong to Local 12), the Mankato office employees have historically been non-union. The employer fought the organizing effort, the union reported.
