Community, faith, labor and other organizations will march Thursday, May 1, in St. Paul to celebrate International Workers Day and call for comprehensive immigration reform.
The march will begin at 3 p.m. at the Governor’s Mansion, 1006 Summit Ave., and end miles later at the state Capitol.
Sponsoring groups include the Minnesota Immigrant Rights Action Committee, Centro Campesino, CTUL (Centro de Trabajadores Unidos en Lucha/Center for Workers United in Struggle), AFSCME locals 34 and 3800 and UNITE HERE Local 17, among many others.
The Senate passed an immigration reform bill last year but the Republican-led House has not acted. Pressure is mounting on President Barack Obama to take executive action to halt the record number of deportations by his administration.
