The precarious state of workers rights and immigrant rights will be the focus of a May 1 demonstration and march in downtown Minneapolis.
'We can't let the war on terrorism be turned into war on immigrants and their rights, and a war on workers rights,' said Gabe Morgan, an organizer with SEIU. The U.S. Department of Justice has been monitoring - and interfering with - SEIU's attempts to organize Burns security guards in the Twin Cities, Morgan said. Burns' parent company, Securitas, has argued that SEIU's actions jeopardize homeland security, Morgan said.
The May Day demonstration takes place at noon at the Federal Building, 300 S. 4th St., Minneapolis. A brief march will follow, organizers say.
