Monday: Join a forum on the meaning of ‘solidarity’

“Solidarity” is a term used a lot, conjuring up images of the Civil Rights movement and the turn-of-the 20th century labor movements. But what does “solidarity” mean and what role does it play in organizing, mobilizing and empowering people today?

The East Side Freedom Library will host a roundtable discussion on the topic Monday, Sept. 12, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the library, 1105 Greenbrier St., Saint Paul.

Labor historian Peter Rachleff of the ESFL will begin with a brief history of the concept and then a panel of local organizers and artists from labor, racial and gender justice movements will weigh in solidarity today. Next, the floor will open for discussion. Find more information on this and other programs at the library’s website.
