New worker center opens Thursday in South St. Paul

The Hardman Avenue Workers Center, located at the UFCW Local 1189 hall, will hold a grand opening celebration Thursday, June 8. The center will offer free workshops for people who need assistance or have questions about the immigration process.  

The celebration will run from 4 – 6 p.m. Thursday, with a program at 5 p.m., and will include refreshments. The Local 1189 hall is located at 266 Hardman Ave. N. in South St. Paul.

Free citizenship application workshops will be held Saturday, June 10, and Sunday, June 11, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  

Activities of the Worker Center include:

  • Information on how to quality for immigration programs
  • Pre-screening applications and documents
  • Assistance in submitting applications, including up to $600 in scholarships for Local 1189 members towards application costs
  • Free legal assistance
  • Free citizenship test flashcards
