One-actor show portrays leader of 1934 Teamsters strikes

Veteran solo performer,  playwright and former Minneapolis resident Howard Petrick returns to the Twin Cities with his new show, “Fight for 52 Cents,” an engrossing and electrifying memoir of Minneapolis’ revolutionary labor leader, Vincent Raymond Dunne.
The show will be presented twice in the Twin Cities:

  • Friday, Sept. 22, at 7 p.m. at the First Unitarian Society, 900 Mt. Curve, Minneapolis;
  • Saturday, Sept. 23, at 7 p.m. at the East Side Freedom Library, 1105 Greenbrier Street, St. Paul.

Dunne led the 1934 Minneapolis Teamsters strikes, among the most influential in American history.
In the one-hour performance, Petrick portrays an 80-year-old Dunne speaking to an audience in 1969 on the 35th anniversary of the strike. Petrick himself met Dunne in 1965 and heard his stories of the 1934 strike.
Petrick has toured with the show across Canada — winning rave reviews — and also this year has performed the show or will perform at local Fringe Festivals in Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Chicago and Elgin, Illinois.
The Winnipeg Free Press wrote: “Dunne was a fascinating character and Petrick is an expert storyteller. Go see his performance, you will not be disappointed.”
For more information on “Fight for 52 Cents,” including a trailer and historical photos of Dunne and the 1934 strike, visit Petrick’s website.
Admission is free to both shows but donations will be collected for the performer.
