The East Side Freedom Library will host a discussion on Saturday, Dec. 3, on “Academics and Activism Today,” examining the role of academics in social change.
The program runs from 1 to 3 p.m. at the library, 1105 Greenbrier St., St. Paul, and is free and open to all.
Panelists will include Eric Fure-Slocum, Emily Labarbera-Twarog, John McKerley, Peter Rachleff, Ralph Scharnau and Shel Stromquist.
These labor studies scholars and working-class historians have long worked at the crossroads of academia and activism. They will discuss how current labor and social struggles guide their campus and community organizing, public history initiatives, teaching, mentoring and other activities. They also will explore the role of research and scholarship in social change.
