Fight Back '05 ? a campaign of the United Steel Workers' associate member program ? will hold a rally Saturday, Sept. 17, to mobilize support for renewable energy standards in state and federal law.
The event takes place from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the St. Paul Labor Center, 411 Main St.
Congresswoman Betty McCollum will be the featured speaker in devising strategies to move the Midwest toward energy independence by requiring that utilities meet "20 by 20" standards ? supplying 20 percent of their energy from renewable sources such as wind and biomass by 2020.
A special emphasis is on building support in Republican legislative districts in the suburbs, where citizens favor clean and renewable energy, but elected officials cave in to the demands of the oil, coal and nuclear industries.
