The “March for Justice in Retail Cleaning” will be Saturday, Nov. 6, starting at 11 a.m. at Grace Trinity Community Church, 1430 W. 28th St. Participants will march along Lake Street to Holy Trinity Church, 2730 E. 31st St.
The event is being organized by CTUL, Centro de Trabajadores Unidos en Lucha / Center of Workers United in Struggle. Earlier this year, the workers sent a letter to several retail chains requesting a meeting to discuss ways to end workplace abuses.
While Jerry’s Foods, a major franchise owner of Cub Foods, responded to the call, others, including Target, SuperValu, Lunds & Byerly’s “have continued to turn a blind eye to the injustices taking place in their stores by refusing to meet with workers,” CTUL said.

“Workers will no longer work in the shadows of these corporate giants, watching their profits soar as workers’ wages and working conditions spiral out of control,” the coalition said. “It’s time for these companies to live up to their standards for corporate responsibility by partnering with CTUL to establish a code of conduct guaranteeing fair wages and working conditions for the workers who clean their stores.”
