Retiree leader Neff is honored

U.S. Senator Mark Dayton, D-Minn., paid tribute to the accomplishments of Stillwater resident and labor leader Erv Neff, who is stepping down after six years as President of the AFL-CIO’s Minnesota State Retiree Council.

Dayton’s State Director, Jim Gelbmann, presented Neff with a framed copy of a commendation Dayton placed in the Congressional Record in Washington, D.C. honoring Neff’s ‘lifetime of distinguished accomplishments.’ Dayton said that under Neff’s leadership, the Council became one of the state’s most influential advocacy groups for retired senior citizens, growing from 19 affiliated organizations in 1996 to 115 today.

‘His legacy will be enhanced by his post-retirement activities. Many people view retirement as an opportunity to relax after a lifetime of hard work . . . Not Erv Neff. Erv recognized the potential positive contributions Minnesota retirees could make toward improving the quality of life in our state.’

Dan Mikel, a vice president of the Retirees Council, was unanimously elected to replace Neff as president of the council.
