Speakers Club program recalls labor martyrs

“Remembering Labor’s Martyrs” is the title of the November St. Paul Labor Speakers Club program, which will recall the lives of several labor activists killed this month during the past century.

The program will be Monday, Nov. 28, at 7:30 p.m. at the St. Paul Labor Centre, 411 Mahoney (aka Main) St., St. Paul. Speakers will be Kieran Knutson and Jeff Pilacinski of the Twin Cities branch of the Industrial Workers of the World.

Among the activists they will remember will be Joe Hill, executed in Utah on Nov. 19, 1915; the Everett, Wash., IWW massacre of Nov. 5, 1916; Wesley Everest, lynched in Centralia, Wash., Nov. 11, 1919; and nuclear processing plant whistleblower and union activist Karen Silkwood, who died under mysterious circumstances Nov. 13, 1974.

The program is free and open to the public.
