The Minnesota AFL-CIO is offering eight $1,000 scholarships for graduating high school seniors, and four $500 scholarships for adults pursuing post-secondary education.
The Martin Duffy Adult Learner Scholarship is for use at any post-secondary institution within Minnesota. Applicants must be members in good standing of a Minnesota union affiliated with either the state AFL-CIO or Minnesota Teamsters. Members on layoff or retired members are eligible, if they were members in good standing for the prior six-month period.
The application deadline for Duffy scholarships is April 30.
The following scholarships are available for graduating high school seniors:
* Donald Pilla Memorial Award, for vocational-technical education
* Hubert H. Humphrey Memorial Award, for either college or vocational-technical education (2 available)
* David K. Roe Achievement Award, for either college or vocational-technical education (3 available)
* Tobey Lapakko Memorial Award, for either college or vocational-technical education
* Charles McKenna Memorial Award, for either college or vocational-technical education
To be eligible, the high school student must have a 'B' average or better, be a dues-paying member for at least one year of a union affiliated with the Minnesota AFL-CIO or a dependent of such a member; and use the scholarship at a post-secondary institution or trade school in Minnesota.
