State Retiree Council to mark 20 years at Sept. 27 convention

The Minnesota State Retiree Council, AFL-CIO, will hold its 20th annual convention this Wednesday, Sept. 27, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.,at the Sheet Metal Workers Local 10 hall, 1681 Cope Ave., Maplewood.
The event will mark the Council’s 20th anniversary and will feature a short video about the organization and a large birthday cake.
The agenda also will include:

  • Discussion of next steps to implement the Strategic Plan recently adopted by the Council’s Board of Directors
  • Remarks by Minnesota AFL-CIO President Bill McCarthy and Secretary-Treasurer Julie Blaha
  • Presentation of awards recognizing individuals and organizations for their leadership and work to assure a dignified and economically secure retirement for all. Among award recipients will be The Minneapolis Regional Labor Federation’s Commission on Racial and Economic Justice, the St. Paul Regional Labor Federation’s Labor Studies and Resource Center and the Minnesota Nurses Association’s Council of Active Retired Nurses

There will also be an election of board members and Council officers, consideration of resolutions and presentations of other awards.
