Members of United Food & Commercial Workers Local 789 will hold rallies in front of the Cub Liquor Store and Cub corporate headquarters Tuesday to support the liquor store employees' right to join the same union that represents other Cub employees.
Recently, Cub Foods' Director of Franchise Curt Craig failed to agree to a Code of Conduct that would allow Cub Liquor Store employees to decide whether to join a union without intimidation or harassment by both parties, the union said. UFCW Local 789 President Bill Pearson signed the code.
"Cub (grocery) employees are union, they get livable wages, they get employer paid health insurance and they have a great pension plan," Pearson said. "There's no reason that the Liquor Store employees should receive less than the rest of Cub's workforce. We intend to fight for Liquor Store workers' right to join their union."
Tuesday's rallies will take place at 4 p.m. at the Cub Liquor Store, 1801 Market Place, Stillwater, and at 4:45 p.m. at Cub corporate headquarters, 421 Third St. S., Stillwater.
