The Executive Board of UNITE HERE, meeting at the Saint Paul Hotel this week, may announce a decision Wednesday on whether it will remain an affiliate of the AFL-CIO.
In June, the union announced it was forming the Change to Win Coalition along with the Laborers, Service Employees International Union, Teamsters, and United Food and Commercial Workers. In July, UNITE HERE was among the unions that boycotted the national AFL-CIO convention, claiming the labor federation was not being responsive to its call for more organizing.
The Teamsters, SEIU and UFCW later announced they were leaving the AFL-CIO, but UNITE HERE leadership said they would delay any decision until this week's Executive Board meeting.
In Minnesota, UNITE HERE has locals in the Twin Cities, Rochester and Duluth, representing workers in hotels, restaurants, hospitals and a variety of other industries.
