Ceremonies honoring the 600-plus union victims of the terrorist destruction of the World Trade Center - among the 3,000 total dead - will headline commemoration of Workers Memorial Day.
The AFL-CIO will sponsor the April 26 ceremony, including a service at Trinity Church on Lower Broadway in New York, a moment of silence in remembrance, a bagpipe-led procession to "Ground Zero" and ceremonies there.
Other Memorial Day events in 32 states on April 28 will focus on workers' rights, ergonomics and the right to organize.
'Though nothing could have saved the workers killed on September 11, one of the best ways to honor them is to work for safer workplaces and to help workers improve their lives through unions,' the federation said.
