Working People’s Day of Action

On February 24 all over the country, it is expected that thousands of working people and allies will, “stand up for our freedom to come together in strong unions and fight.” These actions are in response to a Supreme Court case that many among organized labor argue is an attempt to decimate public sector unions.

On February 26 the Supreme Court will begin hearing hear oral arguments in Janus v. AFSCME. The case asks justices whether requiring public employees fair share fees violates their First Amendment rights. If the case passes, it will make the entire country, “right to work.”

According to organizers of Saturdays actions,

“When we join forces and stick together, we are unstoppable. Fifty years ago, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. joined striking sanitation workers in Memphis, Tennessee, as they fought for the freedom to join together in a strong union and for dignity and respect on the job.”

The Twin Cities actions will be held at the State Capitol Rotunda at 10:30 a.m. For more information, you can go to the FB page
